What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) can be a great option for those who suffer with hormone fluctuations and imbalances. For example, the symptoms of menopause, premenstrual syndrome, polycystic ovaries, acne, andropause (a decrease in the male hormone testosterone) and other hormone-related conditions.
BHRT is very different to conventional HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), which is often prescribed to peri-menopausal and menopausal women. In BHRT, the hormones used are bioidentical, which means they replicate the structure of human hormones exactly. This is not always the case with conventional HRT. The hormones prescribed are created exactly to suit your hormone profile, meaning that there are fewer side effects with BHRT.
What can BHRT help to treat?
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy may help with a variety of symptoms of hormone fluctuations and imbalances, including:
- Hot flushes and night sweats
- Disturbed sleep
- Mood swings
- Premenstrual syndrome / PMT
- Low libido and sexual dysfunction
- Polycystic ovaries
- Dry and wrinkled skin
How long does it take to see a difference?
This varies from patient to patient, but people usually begin to see changes between three to eight weeks after starting treatment.
How do I find out more?
BHRT is a prescription-only treatment, so a full, no-obligation consultation with Dr. Mayoni is necessary. Dr. Mayoni is fully trained in BHRT, having trained with the prestigious Marion Gluck Training Academy. At your consultation, Dr. Mayoni will take a full medical history and give you all the details you need about the treatment. You will also have time to ask any questions you may have. If you decide to go ahead, in order to assess the hormone levels in your body you will also need to attend an external medical centre for a blood test. Full details about this will be provided during your consultation. The results from this test will allow Dr. Mayoni to formulate a bespoke treatment plan for you.
Once treatment has started, you can expect follow-up appointments approximately every three months, depending on your personal treatment plan. We will also repeat the blood test during your treatment to monitor progress. The frequency of testing will depend upon the condition that is being treated.
- Initial consultation: £300
- First follow-up appointment (one week after blood test): £150 (please note the additional prescription cost is paid directly to the pharmacy)
- Second follow-up appointment – three months into treatment: £150
- Third follow-up appointment – six months into treatment: £150
